Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
